YEARS 1 & 2

Class Teacher: Mrs Mallyon and Mrs Bramley (Monday)

Teaching Assistant: Mrs. Wiseman

This year our work is going to be based around some fun and exciting topics!

Autumn 1: All about me and The Great Fire of London
Autumn 2: Twisted Fairytales
Spring 1: The sky's the limit
Spring 2: On Safari
Summer 1: A Toys Story
Summer 2: Oh I do like to be beside the seaside!

Summer 1

Welcome back!

We hope you had a lovely Easter break and are ready to impress us this Summer term! Summer term is always such an enjoyable term in school! Not only do we have the better weather and learning outdoors but it is always lovely to see how far you have all come which always makes us immensely proud!

I am really excited (and I hope you are too) that Robins and Kingfishers will continue to explore topics together. This half-term we are exploring the history of toys through a topic 'A Toys Story'. Hopefully over the Easter break you would have had a chance to discuss favourite toys with parents/grandparents and thought about how they might be different to your favourite toy?

You may even have thought scientifically about 'materials' and 'moving parts'? Can't wait to hear all about it! Remember you can also upload images to Google Classroom for us to share.

We are also going to be exploring some really fun texts this half-term including

Lost in the Toy Museum, Traction Man, Naughty Bus and Stanley's Stick.

I will continue to keep you updated via Google Classroom. Our class topic web, newsletter and home learning this half-term will also be available on the classroom.

Autumn 2

Welcome back!

We hope you have had a restful half term and are ready for the second half of Autumn term. We have lots of fun and exciting activities planned as part of our new topic 'Twisted Fairytales'.

We are starting off with a text by Julia Donaldson called 'Spinderella' and will then be looking at other texts including 'You Choose-Fairytales', 'Super Frozen Magic Forest' and finally finishing off the term with 'Hansel and Gretel'.

Although there will be no Christmas performance this year (as a result of COVID 19) we will be making Christmas as magical as possible for the children!

We also hope to put on a performance for the grown-ups later in the year.

Class news, updates and home learning will be uploaded onto google classroom.

In order to access this information, please ensure you have accepted your new invitation to join 'Kingfisher Class' in September as your Hedgehog login will not work.

Autumn 1

This half term we will start by exploring 'Our feelings' through the following texts:

Followed by our topic  'The Great Fire of London'.

We will learn about the fire of 1666 through fiction and non-fiction texts.

Further class information and updates will be posted on Google Classroom.

Children to come to school wearing their PE kit on a Wednesday.

  Home Learning

Home learning will be set on Tuesdays.

Children will be given a menu of topic activities to choose between.

In addition to the menu, children are expected to read at home at least 3 times a week, practice spellings and take advantage of doodle maths.

Additional reading and maths home learning will be set for year 2 after Christmas.

 Reading

Please try to hear your child read for 10 minutes every day.
Children will be given the opportunity to change their books and books will also be assigned weekly on the 'Reading Planet'.

                    Guided Reading

Guided Reading sessions will take place on a Monday and children will read regularly with an adult. Therefore it is important that they have their reading record book with them in school every day.

Well-being has been a real priority and we have spent the start of term with lots of creative activities.

To celebrate our new class names Kingfishers made their own birds which look AMAZING in our class window.

We have also constructed our version of 'Thomas Farriner's' bakery as part of our topic which has included salt dough bread and cakes!

Making our stained glass effect birds to celebrate our new class names.
